I recently had my 318I engine overhauled, the engine was running fine all gauges working correctly except for the Alternator light was not showing. The engine did about 2000km like this. I then found that the Alt Plug and the TPS sensor plugs where the same and they where incorrectly fitted basically swopped. While doing diagnosis I applied 12v to the TPS sensors plug and asked my wife to check for the Alt warning light on dash at this time not knowing that this was indeed the TPS plug. While doing all these check the temp gauge went to the high mark as well. I then fitted all the plugs to there correct positions and tried starting the engine which then started hunting and did not settle all the while the temp gauge stays in the high range but the red indicative light does not come on. I in turn check the voltage to the TPS sensor 10V ,7.5v and 5V respectively not sure if this is correct. I checked the function of the TPS sensor Varying from 1.5 Ohms to 4.5 Ohms terminals 1 and 2 and then 4.5Ohms to 1.5Ohms terminals 2 and 3 threw its range. Then temp gauge even with the Engine ECU plugs disconnected still goes to high when only switching ignition on,i checked the wiring from temp sensors to ecu for short to ground ,open all ok all sensors have a ohm reading in Kilo ohms. Engine seems to be over fuelling and wont rev above 3500rpm and when you flat tap the throttle it dies/chokes. Does anyone have any advise as to the cause or remedy possible will be thank full for any feed back.
