Engine light problems

I recently got this problem with my N54 135i, when I launch it hard and go to 2nd gear the car goes into limp mode, ESP and engine lights flicker up starts idling not right and then cuts out.
You start the car then it's fine no issues just untill you launch it hard again.

I logged the car via the OBD port but it gives me no errors?

What can be the problem, any help will be appreciated.

Its got excede SW on but rest of the car is still stock and I recently put new wheels on.

No car likes hard launches...it puts strain on so many components of the vehicle.

With regards your issue i suspect the following:

1. You hitting the rev limiter at launch & the vehicle goes into protection mode.
2. The car overshoots boost @ launch & go into limp.
3. The issue is tune related?

Do a proper log of the car. Checking codes is not logging & wont tell you much about how the car is actually performing.

Something else to remember is that when a car goes into limp mode (protection mode) it is not a bad thing. Its actually a good thing. It tells you as the driver to perhaps consider a "softer" launch. Or get hardware that can assist with hard launches & yet makes it easier on the transmission & motor.

The thing is I don't take the car into rev limiter. I have also tried to launch the car softer in 1st and when I go to 2nd and put my foot down it starts to wheel spin and boom it goes into limp mode.
It does not do it everytime, drove the car this weekend and it was fine.
I have the car now for 5 years and this problem seems to be a new one popping up every now and again

I will try and log the car when I get time and see if I can pick anything up

Yes seems to me it happens when the car wheel spin excesively

It happens in the follow order first the ESP flash then engine light flash then limp mode then idling low and cuts out.

When you start it again it's fine and you can drive it.

Check if your ESP rings are clean on the hubs.As TWINZ says limp mode is actually a good thing.In the old days something would have broken by now.

Wheelspin means Traction control off....

I remember serious problems with several cars on dyno runs where only the back axle rotated...in the end you are doing the same....

But rotation indicator of ESP also seems to be reasonable...
