Engine Fault Light coming on and going off

Hi Guys

please help my E92 335i N55 has an engine fault light that comes on when the the car gets hot but goes off when you switch the car off but comes back again.
had my cousin put it on hes diagnostic but it doesnt pick up any errors plus the car is idling abit rough

the car is due for an oil service in 2000km or a month

There must be a code if you going into limp mode.

Usually switching off the car and starting it up again eliminates the limp mode.

Limp mode will kick in when some parameter is out of tolerance.

he tried 2 different diagnostic devices but couldnt pick up the fault in the history
have u encountered an issue like this the car is just over 100 000km

My car has a jb4 unit so whenever i go into limp mode the jb can tell me the code its throwing.

At what max temp is you car running at?

The two key thing i picked up in your posts is hot engine and 100 000km

Usually around 90k and 120k the water pump tend to go.

Is your car still on MP?

it sits under 120 when i say hot i mean when it hits the hottest the car should get
no plan was finished when i got it
maybe i should heat the car up fully with the diagnostic on till the error pops up?

at what mileage do you change plugs and oil?

Hi Bud,

I have had the engine warning light also pop up twice over the past 3 months, that scary warning of engine operating on reduced power, have the problem checked by authorized dealer etc..

But the car seems fine no issues, no loss of power feels 100% i haven't had it checked out as yet, not sure what it is as well....all I know it gives me anxiety attacks.

Plugs usually get changed at around 90K to 100k.

Im doing an oil change every 10k and plugs every 15k.

I would say do a complete service, oil, oil filter, plugs and air filter.

Then take it from there.

Going into limp mode can be scary, but its there more to protect the engine if it picks up that something is not right.

There must be something triggering the limp mode error. If possibly ask our forum advertiser from OBDWorx to try and help out, im sure he can point you in the right direction
