Hi Guys

I need to clean my engine, with my other cars it is pretty much straight forward been a toyota and hyundai.

I fear that I might break something that I should not on my S54.

I need advice on which cleaning products to use and the cleaning process please?

Thanks in advance.

Why not post some tips and tricks? Many of us want to learn from you and your expertise. You have the knack of detailing.

I was told NEVER wash when hot as something may crack...? :fencelook:

I was told this is true IF you have an aluminium block?

Cast Iron blocks can be washed when hot?? :fencelook:

Probably but is it worth taking the risk :fencelook:

Also hot engine = cleaning agents drying faster surely :dunno:

Wash the engine when it is cool! And even if you just move the car from cold to a different position and switch off, the exhaust system is already been exposed to some significant heat. Safest is to do this when cold!

i want to invest in a steam cleaner for the engine, as there some places where pressure cleaners shouldnt go.

washing any engine hot is not a good idea cast iron block or not there are components that can crack from the temperature change...

also if using a steam cleaner or pressure washer you need to be careful moisture does not get in where it should not be

Yep, I prefer to use a gentle light spray of water when rinsing off - steam cleaning as said above does pose a risk of moisture getting into places it shouldn't (steam always finds away in), and high pressure sprays to a similar extent, in some cases worse of course.
