Is it possible to solder a small lamp back into the old school "computer display" in the dash of my 1989 E30?

Dealer wants to replace the whole unit but its only the back not working.

Do you mean the on board computer (OBC)?

I don't know what the dealer is on about, as the bulbs are replaceable in the E30 displays....all of them.

They are not soldered on.

Should it be that it was soldered on, I am sure...... it can still be replaced by some "magicians" we all know....

If something has been soldered on it can be soldered off sometimes you might need some special tools to do this but in most cases not.

Unless its surface mount solder, most solder can removed using an R80 solder sucker..

But Rick is right, its just a twist in globe, I have some spare actually

Do you have a picture of the OBC, maybe there's a version with soldered bulbs, if so I may be able to get you some.
