EGR delete and rouge idle 330d

Hi guys,

I drove my 330d for the first time in 10 days last night and was having a few problems with my lights. The warning light on the dash would come on for either the front or rear lights. It wasn't a long drive but I felt something wasn't right. So today I took it for a drive and hit a hill in 3rd gear at 2000rpm. I was in drive and put my foot flat and nothing happened it just slowly crept forward. It literally felt like I was driving a real tractor. It was also smoking quite badly.

So I took the car to my mechanic and it turned out to be a boost leak at the EGR seal. And a earthing fault with the lights. So the car is booked in for tomorrow.

I asked him about the EGR delete and he said he hasn't seen any decent kits around so at the moment until he finds one he wouldn't do it. They are the same people that did the swirl flap delete. And have recently done the engine mountings on the car. We also checked the main crank shaft pulley dampener and that was fine as well.

So what are your guys views on the EGR delete? I have looked at the forum and people suggest the Land Rover Blanking Plate. But it doesn't look very high quality?

What do you guys think of this one Allard Aluminium EGR Delete Kit?

How much of a rough idle can one expect from a 3litre diesel? Its to the point where if I have keys in the side of the door they will vibrate together making a noise. Its quite bad when the car is stopped and in drive and is a bit less in neutral and almost completely goes away when i rev the engine slightly in neutral. And there is no vibration when driving. And what else could be the cause. I have just had engine mounts replaced. The front pulley looks fine.

When not have your EGR disabled in your software?
Valve stays closed all the time

End of story

Greetings

de-EGR is NOT a standard proceedure to switch it OFF in software!
Many people believe in it.
However it has proven to be more fuel efficient to switch it off

As a customer we will switch it off FREE OF CHARGE on any software we previously did for you.

On new cars / software we charge R1500 for the EGR switch off

Hope this helps

This is not part of the software.... usually only deactivated if you go into competition mode.

However, as I stated before, we will do the EGR deactivation on previous customers cars FREE OF CHARGE

Interesting, Rolf you mention that it is deactivated when going into competition mode, is there any benefit of having as per normal other than emissions?

The valve you refer to, will stay shut thus not allowing any of the exhaust gases into the intake? As a precautionary measure I should still clean the EGR after?

If EGR is deactivated you do not havr to clean it as its dormant

Well, switching it off in SW is the same as pulling the vacuum line and plugging it. (as long as its an E46, later models do require a SW mod.)

On the rough idle - you can check the injectors in INPA (a good BMW workshop should be able to check rough idle and injector adjutments), but by the sound of it, you will need injectors and engine mounts replaced.

on EU3 emmision compliant cars like mine it can still be completely removed, because the management has no way of knowing if it is working or not. on later cars , EU4 and on, it cannot be completely removed because the ecu monitors it and will notice if its gone..

This is where Promotec get into the game
We do offer EGR removal in software

I just had my engine mounts replaced and I'd like to sort out the vibration issues so that i don't have to replace them again sooner from the vibrations.

The cars having a boost leak fixed at my mechanics. I will ask them to do the injector test.

On the E46, when you plug the EGR vacuum line, plug it BEFORE the vacuum actuator. My vac actuator made terrible noises when switching off the car.
(Keep the actuator for a spare one if the turbo's actuator goes...they are the same.)

Rolf are you still doing the software mod to deactivate this egr? I want to do this on my 2011 X5 3.0D.

Thanks.

Unfortunately Rolf passed on some time ago, in light of this thread being so old it will be closed. If anyone wishes to reference something from here please start a new thread and post the link.

Thanks.
