Econo Chipped!

Hi guys!

Really want to get an "economy chip" for my 2009 320d.

Any advise you guys can give me?
Got a quote from Wulfchiptegnik (www.wulfchiptegnik.com).
These guys are in Cape town btw.
They said I wil get a 20% fuel econo boost and an additional 15% power hike as well.

Really not worried about the power, wanna get more fuel consumption, I drive quite a lot of open road so I want to maximize the economy!

The chip won't affect your open road consumption, if driving normal, it will remain the same, the decreased fuel consumption would be evident under "normal" city driving...... On that note, speak to Rennzport and see what they have to offer you......

If you are complaining of fuel economy on a 320d there must be a fault on your car.Especially open road at least 5.5l/100.If you are not getting this you have to look at other faults.A chip will not fix a fault.

What! Is that on the open road?Have they taken compression on the motor?
Had a case recently on a VW product that had become thirsty.Took compression and the one cylinder was down. After many questions to the owner it came out that his wife had driven through water where you need a boat.Problem solved, head off and as thought the conrod had bent. The motor was still running fine but with the extra friction the fuel economy went through the roof.

Its not that I am complaining, on the open road I get exactly 17.5km/l (5.7/100km) which is rather good and urban I get 13.5km/l (7.4/100km).

But if I can add more on top of that, why not?

You can olso look at low friction tyres to aid in boosting fuel consuption. Both Mitchelin and Bridgestone make good eco tyres. Plus if you dont do spirited driving, you can go for a narrower profile which will save even more.

When I put on wider tyres (went from 225 to a 255) I had about a 1L/100km increase in fuel consumption!

Thnx menno!
Will have a look at that as well, wanna go 17" when I change tyres, then I'll probably go 255!!

The 255 will look great, i dont mind trading 1l/100km for that and you get better traction
