Earphones/Headphones

Hey guys. Just curious as to what earphones or headphones you guys use and what you recommend. For obvious reasons most shops do not allow you to test them before buying so the only way to really gauge how good they are is through first hand experience from others. I have a set of Sennheizer Mx 581's that I use at work which I'm thinking of replacing because I want something with a bit more noise isolation so others in the office can't hear what I'm listening to and also my current ear phones tend to hurt my ears after long periods as in they become uncomfortable. I've tried those in-ear ones years ago but they also tend to be uncomfortable and never fit properly in my ears and they keep falling out. Any recommendations?

At home I have a set of Sennheizer HD201's hooked up to an old NAD amp that I use when I'm busy on my home PC. They're an awesome set of headphones for the price:praise:

I bought some Sennheiser HD518's and they're not *much* different to the HD201s. Plus they are an open design - so people can hear a bit of sound out of the sides of them.

Truthfully, I wasnt too blown away by the sound out of these (just plugged into the pc - no headphone amp) so the first thing I did was open them up and added some clay putty around the back of the speakers as shown on an internet forum. Then I covered the open grills with felt material from the inside so there was a bit more isolation.

After that I've actually come to like them a lot. They're not extra bassy and not very harsh treble-wise but they allow you to hear every subtle tone in the music from bass notes to treble. They're a good neutral set of phones.

I have 2 sets of Sennheiser and skull candy
The skullcandy are awsome and so are my sennheiser, but my sennheiser have now seen better days unfortunately, but they still work and sound great

AKG also make an excellent headphone

I don't want to get headphones to use at work. It'll look a bit odd so will rather stick to earphones. I see the Klipsch earphones are quite highly rated, but I don't want to spend so much and then they don't fit properly. I've been very happy with Sennheizer's. I've been through 3 pairs and they all work perfectly fine after so many years, but I want to maybe try something different.

I love my headphones, but they don't really blow me away. The quality is decent, but they lack a bit of bass and mids.

B&W P5.

Apple store in new york (the down town one not the 5th ave store) has about 40 headphones to try, all linked to ipods with the same songs to compare.

Undoubtedly the most comfortable, sound is really great but admittedly not the absolute best of all I tried.

Bro has a set of SkullKandys that he got for campus... noise isolation is amazing... you cant hear a thing, even sitting right next to him, with his music at full blast... I'm not sure which set they are though, will investigate further...

Overrated and expensive. I have Audio-Technica headphones which cost me R1200 and sound way better than BbD.

Bose Tri-port. Excellent bass response and they don't block out to much sound. I wear them at work so still like to know what is going on around me.

+1 too much bass and they don't last long from the reviews I've read. You basically paying for the name. My R400 Sennheizers sound better IMO.

Sennheiser HD 380 Pro for home use. Love the noise cancellation, and the clean quality of the sound is excellent.
