Any of them should be fine. Also check with Peter from AEW. I know that BMW Sandton sent a a car to TuneTech for bearings.

Also do the throttle actuator gears while you at it.

Should be able to do bearings and the gears for under R50k.

Dont wait. Do the bearings before its too late as you said.

Mine went at 82k km with out even a whisper of a sign. It was was a very painful experience.

Will be interesting to see how the supercharger conversion impacts the period between bearing changes. I assume that you would have to change bearings at a more regular interval than a stock car?

Price factor is hardly ever aligned with reliability and safety.
You get what you pay for.

Out of interest, what did you do to get the car mobile again? And how does that cost compare to the cost of the bearing replacement?

Either Peter or Tune Tech will get my vote.

My car was maintained at the dealer and then went to Tune Tech for quite a bit of work done by the previous owner. He had only good things to say.

This was about 5-6 yeas ago.

At the time the bearings were around R35-40k if i remember, but the dreaded number was 100k km.
I took care of my car, so thought i still had plenty of time, as i only do around 8000km a year, so being on 82k km.....

The Options were: ( my memory is a bit hazy on the numbers, but i think that's what they were )

1) Rebuild with NO guarantee that they get every little bit of metal filings out of the oil system, so it could happen again ( R80k )

2) Second hand engine. No idea of mileage, no guarantee how its been taken care of, and you would have to do the bearings for obvious
reasons. ( think the engine was R120k + bearings + install )

3) Brand new crate motor from BMW. I had a mate who works at the Roslyn plant. So he helped me and i think the end cost was R250 odd installed and back on the road.

Be afraid, be very afraid.

Bearings is a must do...... I'll be doing mine every 40k km on my supercharged E92. Peace of mind for not much cost, relatively speaking. I always do bearings immediately on every S54/S65 powered car I buy.

Your rod bearings will soon give in. Had a traumatic experience… for a recon engine once the go will be north of R100k… Martins motorsport in Selby should be able to sort you out while your lovely machine is still drivable
