e92 M3 vs Audi R8

Is it just me or is the R8 not really a super car.

Out of experience, I've seen one race another BMW and I was not impressed with this so called supercar.

Anyway, here is a vid after doing some more research...

The R8 v8 has 309kw... same as the M3...

Any e92 M3 guys had a run with an Audi R8 before?

Mmm interesting. To be honest I have never compared the two.If I had to I would obviously say the R8 would take it being the lighter of the two but the M holds it's own,nice :thumbs: Guess they have to rethink their 'space frame' :biglol:

The Audi is 1560kg and an E92 M3 is 1680kg so it should be quite close on paper.

Pretty sure the V8 in the R8 is the same engine in the RS4, M3 has been shown to be the quicker than the RS4.

Guess the R8's aerodynamics and possible weight advantage(to much effort to google) over a RS4 keep it running closer to the M3.

No offense but its an Audi R8.

Just like a 335i isn't considered as half the car is M3 is the same applies to the Audi.

In an R8 you have arrived, in an M3 you are in an exceptionally good 2 door sedan. I love the M3, but the sensation of even just sitting in an R8 already makes it twice the car the M3 is even if It is not much faster in a straight line.

Of course this is my opinion and is not necessary a valid, true and correct way of comparing the two.

As much as I love an E92 M3 in white, the R8 gives me a fuzzy feeling in my stomach. And the fuzz is always right.

still, call me crazy but I'd have a RS4 over a R8 if I had to choose

I never get why it's so horrifying to not be faster - or significantly faster, than an M3. The same argument is always leveled at the Aston Martin Vantage 4.3.

The simple reality is that the M3 is a superlative achievement from BMW, and its performance demonstrates that. When I see a race like that, I don't think "that Audi is a useless POS", I think "Wow, the M3 is an incredible performance car." They are comparable in only one or two performance facets - the R8's handling and aesthetics are in another league.

I had an encounter with one towards the end of last year. It wasn't a pretty sight. He managed to stay with me through the first gear on a rolling start, after that it was the M3 ahead. Pulling a decent gap in every gear. Had my car been stock the tables would have been turned, but not by much.

I say stock M3 M-DCT vs stock R8 s-tronic, the R8 should be ahead, but just.

Stock M3 M-DCT vs stock R8 manual , should be more or less even with the R8 starting to creep ahead at hectic speeds.

The R8's advantage is its weight and aerodynamics.

The R8 is special, it looks like it was ripped straight out a comic book. Every time I see one, I can't believe Audi made it. Normally when manufacturers make a concept car, the production version is always a hectic deviation from the original concept. But with cars like the R8 and the SLR the manufacturers delivered on the promise made by the concept car.

The R8 is majestic!

yeah, if I had a choice, I would always take the R8.
I have driven the R8 V10!!! What a piece of engineering! Geez, it is relentless off the line! And the manic sound from the engine right behind you!!??
M3 may be near-as-quick, but its not as outlandish or quite as appealing as the R8 in my POV

I wont lie, when I drive past Audi in the Waterfront I get all excited and look for an R8 to drool over, I dont even do that for the new M5 at BMW.

Strangely enough, the Merc SLR and even SLS does the same thing for me.

There are faster (note the word faster, not better) cars out there for the same value but when you pull up at a hotel in a R8/SLS...

I would definitely feel like a man in an R8, and the woman at my side would think she has scored a great man... until the dude in the M3 drops you behind and you feel like a knob, and at the next set of the lights, the chick gets out ur car and gets in the M3... :thumbdo:
