E92 M3 or 340i msport

Hi Everyone,

First time posting on here, I'm looking for some advice.

I am ready to purchase a high performing bmw.

The two options in my price range right now are the E92 M3 with less than 90000kms or a 2018 340i m sport with less than 75000kms.
The 340 is still in motor plan for this year and also has almost every extra.

Any recommendation as to what would be the better buy?
Also how much would I be spending annually on the m3 for servicing?

Thanks.

Would depend what use are you looking for, a weekend warrior or a daily driver?
340i would be way more comfortable and easier to live with day to day but if you looking for something for weekends and to make you feel special this would have to be an M3.

another option you may want to look at is an early model F80 as this would also be an option, you might have to stretch your budget by another 100k+ though

M Tax comes into play with M3
Some items that needs to have been done
Rod bearing, etc.

It’s an absolute stunner, and will be a great weekend car.

For daily use, 340i is the way to go between the two. Newer tech, new car feel, cheaper to run, lots of modifications too.

If you have a reliable daily, then the e92 makes sense to me.. If you looking to daily either, then the 340i is more ideal between the two.. I know bearings are a big ticket item on e92 M3!

Great question.

As a daily driver, the 340i would be a great choice and truly a damn fast package. Unless you’re allergic to the oily substance and prefer living at higher RPM, (relatively speaking), also consider the diesel alternative.

The M3 is something different, more focused, completely different attitude. In my experience with M cars, I would not want to daily one, but some do, and they enjoy every minute.

One thing is for sure, once you’ve driven both, you’d know which one your heart desires, I fear that it might be the screaming V8 though lol.

Search this forum, see how many guys have transformed their F30’s into mean looking beasts.

V8 all day every day, especially since you say you hardly drive the car.
The B58 is brilliant but they not M cars. I had a M240I and always felt it was missing something.
If you choose the V8, you will need some cash on the side for the bearings and exhaust 😜

340i..... Ill be biased....So here goes....

If you at the coast and only then should the e92 M be considered. That noise is all thats better than the 340i.

E92 has aged now, i even feel my F30 has aged after driving around in the G Series.

I love my 340, its the best car i have had to date, every trip in it makes me smile. Will i consider trading in for an e90/e92 M.....Nope....

a 330d should be considered to get from A to B with a less fuel bill... for everything else..... 340 B58 FTW !!

Pretty much as what others have said. If it's a weekend warrior, E92M3, if it's a daily or if you'll be doing more than 10k km then 340i.

I'll take a hiding any day if it means having to listen to and enjoy that glorious V8. One of the few cars I always turn off the radio and turn down my window every time it drives past.

M3 is a much more interesting car, and IMO the E92 is a much nicer place to be in than the F30.

Maintenance will cost more, but a real pain of the V8 would now be at the pump - it’s silly when it comes to consumption figures, especially if you don’t do many highway kms.

B58 for the win here allround.. can perform well, can sound really good aswell, and also lots of options for mods.. consumption on long road great aswel.. v8 m3 is iconic but a bit long in the tooth now.. go test drive a 340i and then jump into a v8 and come back and tell us. hehe
