E90 steering column replacement

I would like to know if anybody here has any idea what is the process for replacing the steering column?

In particular, I would like to know if the trim on the dashboard, with the start/stop button and vents needs to be removed / refitted at all? See attached image, forgive me for using an image from the WWW showing a left hand drive vehicle.

probably does not have too, but that piece of trim is so easy to remove, i can literally do it in 30 seconds.

Thanks for the replies.

I was asking because I recently had to have the steering column replaced on my E90, now shortly afterwards this trim seems to be coming loose.
