Hi guys and gals, I'm in need of some serious help, my not so professional radio decided its not gonna sing for me anymore. :argh:

I went to the shop to get some stuff and when i got back to the car i notice a dark n empty void in the middle of the dashboard. :nonono: No lights on the radio display. The lights around the buttons and dials are on and i am able to eject the MP3 disk but that's it. :thumbdo:

I though it could be a fuse. I check all in the fuse box and the seem fine. I also disconnected the battery for 30min and nada
I'm not the most gentlest person and I don't have much patience, so I didn't attempt to pull out the radio and check the fuse at the back. Anyone else had this issue or can offer suggestions, i would really appreciate it. Changing the deck is really a last resort. If i pull out the unit and connect it in another e90 will i have to clear any faults on the ecu or is it a straight swap?

I really hate driving without sound, especially driving in traffic

Hi Sorry to hear man, I don't know about radio, but does the car not have an aux in the centre counsil, maybe you can try to connect an ipod or mp3 through it,

sounds like a fuse problem,

Thanks bud, i does have a AUX and a USB plugin, the problem is the deck is not responding so i cant select any modes, its completely dead. If i eject the CD and put it back i can hear it reading but thats it.... :nonono:
 wonder if the radio is covered under my warranty

try playing with the volume, I know that a common fault is the screen lights fade away, so it looks like it is off but actually its on,

I would check the fuses - actually all.

Remember that a radio receives two sources of power - one for permanent power (that's why the CD still responds - just as if the car is switched off) and one for activation (this one appears to be missing.)

A fuse does not have to look blown to be blown - they must be tested.

I tried that, also held down the volume button and "m" key to activate hidden menu but no go :nonono:

Did some reseach and seems like its a common issue with the 2009 model, couldn't find a decent fix..

Not sure if this will work... Its more for resetting the screen. Press and hold the power button for at least 20 seconds then release.

I have one that I took out my E90 for sale? I replaced it with a double din multimedia system, are you interested?

Howzit man. It could be a faulty power cable that was part of the bmw global recall. Check with BMW SA or your dealer if your car is part of that recall.

Recheck fuses as well. Sometimes they look fine. Swap it out and see if it fixes it.

My dads e90 did the same, lucky it was still under motorplan. Sent it in took about 2 weeks to get it back. But they never said what was the problem.

If you checked fuses and everything checks then it could be a problem with the head unit remove and send it to combined electronics they do all bmw's radio repairs

pm sent

I removed the unit from my 323i and swapped it on the 330d and it worked fine, so the fault is with the actual head unit

I might be wrong, but I am sure that there is a fuse on the back of the unit too. Maybe remove it from the dash and check that fuse too...
