So yesterday morning my Wife and I decide to take a drive out to Bredarsdorp to visit friends for a few hours and have some coffee, one of those spur of the moment things! Now we could see that the weather was misluk, but that didn't put us off! And my car has been asking for a good run for a long time now! So didn't take much convincing!

Off we go and all fine apart from the newly fitted wipers from the agents being a bit noisy - got better later on in the day after lots of work. Had a 320d LCI pacing me from Sir Lowry's Pass - well let him go by to see what he was and then stayed with him until he turned off. Those diesels are good indeed with all that torque! At times the rain was coming down a lot and the roads were very wet, so loved the spray trailing behind the car! On some of the long straight stretches while the rain was reduced to a mild drizzle I opened her up a bit - deceptively it does not feel that fast at all, it's amazing how sure-footed and generally at ease these cars are at these kinds of speeds!

Anyway, got to our friends and then later on headed home again. Again, lots of rain and now some traffic for people also making their way back to town. Close to Sir Lowry's Pass all of a sudden the flow of traffic comes to a complete standstill with a hell of a long queue of cars stretching into the distance up the Pass. Thinking that this is simply due to the weather conditions we patiently crept along with the queue. Turned on the radio to see if there was anything mentioned, and at that moment the traffic news had just started informing that the Pass was closed for traffic going out of town due to the thick mist and rain - what they didn't say was that there were rock falls and a few cars taken out by this! Luckily no casualties!

Realising that we were most likely going to be waiting and moving really slowly for a long time we decided to turn around and take a detour through Franshoek, by this stage it was already starting to get dark, so off we go. Thank goodness we did this, apparently it took people hours to get over the Pass!

Eventually got home after spending the entire day on the road - was still loads of fun, but now my car is seriously filthy from the rain!! Took some picture to brag!!

I think she looks rather clean. A neighbour of mine arrived from Johannesburg yesterday afternoon. Now his car is really dirty, mud splatters everywhere.

Philip, that doesn't look overly dirty. I can't see any brake dust at all?
Very nice indeed!

Nice post Phillip. Always an entertaining read.
Took a trip to Kimberley the other day on the N12.

Wish I could do long road trips all the time. I think that's where my BMW shines the most, around the bends and on the long road :joy:

Glad you had an awesome and safe drive.

Thanks guys! Bare in mind that she was pretty clean before setting off, plus my wheels are always kept pretty clean and waxed, so tend to naturally repel brake dust. Cannot wait to give her a nice wash now! That's my task for tomorrow afternoon or Thursday...

Yep, these BMW's are truly in their element on the open road like this, town driving is such an injustice for them in my mind!
