E90 N55 Vacuum line differences

Hi all,

So I want to replace my vacuum lines and from what I can distinguish, part 3, 4 and 5 are the only lines on my E90 N55.

Questions I have:

1.) What is the part on the image middle way through part 3?

2.) What is different about part 5 vs 3 &4? I see it is called a hose instead of a pipe.

3.) Vee's Auto Pipes can supply lines, starting from R60 a meter. BMW quoted me about R420 for part 3 and 4 each and almost R700 for part 5. Are there special curves, bends and/or heat resistance on the OEM pipes which makes them a better choice?

4.) Are there any clips or fasteners I need or do these just slide on?

5.). Are there other lines besides parts 3,4 and 5?

I am definitely noticing the car doesn't have the same pep it when I first bought it so I am wanting to start fixing where I can.

Finally took a look for the pipes today to see what it looks like.

Pipe 3 looks spotless. Which is great cause BMW has no stock and would take 3 weeks to import if I wanted OEM.

Pipe 4 is a braided pipe. Don't know if that is OEM but I have my suspicions about that and it looks a little fatigued.

Hose (part 5) looks okay but if I am replacing 4 then I might as well replace 5 as well. Don't see how this tiny piece costs R700 at BMW though.

Any insights from the more knowledgeable?

I am going to BMW to buy spark plugs today and maybe the OEM vacuum pipe (part 4) if you guys reckon that pipe isn't stock or looks dodgy.

I will add, pipe 4 also felt very soft when squeezing it.

Pipe 5 I reckon I can get something else to replace that hose at much lower price.

The braided line is the one that goes to the turbo itself... You should replace them all, and not necessarily with bmw hose. Get a good quality Silicone hose with a sufficient wall.... I would also recommend you check how the hose is routed and avoid any possible hot spots where the hose could get damaged

Thanks.

Hose 3 seems brand new when I checked. Only 4 and 5 are suspicious to me.

I ordered a new 4 from BMW. I will get a different hose somewhere to replace 5.

You can't physically examine, you need to pull one end of the pipe off and apply pressure either with a syringe or by sucking on the pipe to check if it keeps vacuum.

Now that just sounds like work :bangdesk:

Well you gotta do the work if you want to sort out the car.

Wouldnt you rather have the car 'Work'...

I had to install twice, first time around, hose going to my rear turbo was split... You wouldn't know unless you physically removed the line.... Then remember what I mentioned about routing the pipe correctly, I didn't do this and got a nice hole burnt into the Silicone where it touched the manifold.

Haha, of course. I just need to find the time to actually buckle down and get cracking on this.

I am expecting that pipe 4 to be damaged like that or nearing such a condition. I do agree that I need to properly inspect. I will definitely keep in mind about the how it is routed.

I dont remember if AWB had this or not, but could one make it such that not only can you see who posted last in a forum, but also what topic that post was in?

What was posted in is more important than who posted it IMO...
