Hi everyone, I was registered previously as Vtec Power but changed my username as I finally found a car, I bought a 2009 323i Sport, and still learning about BMW's, wondered if anyone could help me with the following:
- My car is due for a service soon and wanted to know if anyone got experiences with services at Joburg City Auto or Auto Glen, these are the dealerships closest to me that I am looking to most likely go for the services.
- I'm looking to fit a bootspoiler, but not the carbon fibre one as I won’t be fitting any other carbon fibre bits on the car so think it would look odd. Any recommendations of where I can find spoilers from?
- Does the K&N filter make any difference with breathing or smoother acceleration, or should I just stick with the standard filter BMW gives?
- I noticed that the car is quite silent, only engine noise on heavy acceleration, is it a simple change of the rear silencer to get the 6 cylinder ‘tone’ that BMW is noted for?
- With regards to the ‘Angel Eyes’, mine doesn’t have the ‘white’ light, but rather the ‘yelowish’ colour, is it just a simple globe replacement, or can this not be changed?
:ty:

K&N will not make a difference in power, only the rate at which the engine wears (it will wear 30 times quicker)

I have read on other forums that members feel it’s a waste of time adding the K&N, and some say it’s a matter of choice as some people ‘feel’ it quicker even though it might not be…Out of curiosity why would you say that the engine would wear out 30 times quicker?

I have done some searching on the site and found a few answers, however can you please assist with the following:

There is no OEM manufacturer that uses K&N-type filters. The reason is simple: they do not filter the air properly. This means that abrasive dust particles enter the engine and this causes it to wear out very quickly. You can easily tell if an engine has run a filter like that for a while when you open it up. There are some tests somewhere on the internet that shows just how much junk it lets through

Cool, thanx for the explanation, makes sense :)

Anyone can help with the other questions? :)

In terms of the airfilter: what P1000 said.

In terms of the dealers: best would be to just do a search on the internet and see if you find any negative comments, if not then they are probably not to bad.

As for the engine sound: I am assuming that your car is still under motorplan, if that is the case your only options are to get the BMW performance exhaust or the AC schnitzer exhaust (JSN motors sell the ACS bit here in SA) but what you will be paying for these don't really make them worthwhile, in my opinion at least.

Edit: Oh and glad to hear that you now have a BMW, now you need to also share some pics in the showroom section.

Will use Google for the dealers...
Damn, though i could get away with the exhaust somehow for the tone :(
Just need to clean the car nicely, and sorted out the tinting, plates, etc. and then will post pix :)

Start with the cosmetic bits that you are thinking about:
* Tint
* plates
* spoiler

And get the car washed...:idea:

Hi there!

Never had any experience with Joburg City but from what I hear they not that capable.
I've been servicing my 330 at Auto Glen for many years, both on and off motorplan. Have never had issues. Both Carlos and Tony are dinkum guys.
They really helpful. Only problem with them is that they really busy, so most of the time u've got to leave your car overnight if there's anything additional to be done besides the routine servicing. And they never have any courtesy vechiles. Other than that they tops!

Regards

Twins – Yip that’s the steps I’m following, although the spoiler might take a while, as I need to first find the one I am looking for…
Sankekur – I’ve already tinted the vehicle, before reading who the sponsors are :(
Firaz – Thanx for the information, will rather than also take it to Auto Glen and see what experience I get :)

As I can remember MR_ARBEE managed to get his exhaust replaced at powerflow while still under motorplan (I remember him saying something about he asked BMW & they approved powerflow as a fittment place for his car) or something like that..

try contacting him, he is on the forum....

Use the standard airfilter, its the cone shaped filter as well. BMW does offer a BMW performance filter option but that costs R1350 as compared to R350 for the standard one. No worth the gains.

The exhuast system has a flap in it the opens and close, i think it opens at 3000 rpm to give you that 6cyl tone. Below this rev the exhuast flap closers to give a quiter tone. You can have the flap perminantly opened from what i hear. But a prefer the system the way its is.

Never knew that the car comes with a cone filter, learning more each day :)
Prefer to leave the flat as well, just want the tone at high rpm for when I decide to floor it…
