Hi, my 320d e90 needs to have the coolant replaced.
I have changed coolant on other cars, plenty times, the bleeding process is the critical factor i would like to get more info regarding this vehicle.
I have bought antifreeze and new bleedscrew from the agents, and i intend to use deionized water to mix with the antifreeze.
Has anybody got a step by step process for this?, i am not willing to risk anything on my car as i have not done it on a beemer before.
My usual steps are as follow :
Remove rad cap and bleedscrew and switch on heater matrix
Romove bottom rad hose and drain water, into a container
Loosely refit rad hose and fill up with hosepipe, loosen rad hose and drain
Run water till clear, then refit and tighten bottom rad hose
Mix antifreeze and water, 50/50 mix (consentrated antifreeze)
Mix into 2lt bottels, then add the correct quantity to the rad bottle
Squeeze bottom rad hose till water comes out of bleedscrew
Refit bleedscrew and start car with rad cap off, monitor level and bubbles
Refit rad cap and let idle for a while and feel if warm air is coming out the heater
Take for a short spin, and let it cool down, then check water level.
Now for my questions :
How much coolant does a 2005 320d take? This way i know if it has bled properly.
What is the best mix for this car, 50/50, 60/40?
Is the heater matrix an open or closed system?
Am i missing anything?
I just can't see myself paying r1300 +vat for something i have done many times
