E90 central locking madness

Sup gents .

Trust all well, apologies for bringing up this thread …..
Please help .

I drive a 330d e90. The car is literally perfect ( except for what I did…..

Left lights on , killed battery , boosted car incorrectly cause the vehicle that helped me boost had incorrect colors on terminals , caused a short , blew central locking fuse…..there u go…..😭😭😭😭)

So replaced fuses and now my central locking and dash switch is working except for for the drivers door … when I say the car was perfect , it was ….until this door started to annoy me….

Is there any trick or cheap way of fixing before I get BMW involved .

I do have OBD scanner but does give much options .

Any advice will be appreciated guys . Thanks .

These cars are VERY sensitive to voltage, you probably fried your FRM when boosting the car.

You should never jump start these cars, would be best to get the car scanned by someone with a proper BMW scanner and take it from there. Where are you based?

I recently removed an FRM from a 2011 E90 after it packed up. I sent it to Gert at OBDWorx in Benoni who fixed the FRM for R1500. Installed it for my customer and all is working fine now. Problem started after flat battery, etc. Could be your problem too. I will PM your his phone number.

is Gert doing private work again, i was under the impression that he was only focusing on his corporate clients?

Would you perhaps know of someone in Durban whom is as knowledged about this issue ?

as mentioned by others the FRM module is very sensitive and is actually designed to fail in this manager to prevent a electrical fire from starting.
The module is fairly easy to access and can be removed and then repaired.

Herewith is a guide that shows how to remove it. Just note that this is only a guide and that it will differ from your car firstly cause you have a RHD and not LHD.

Usually when you have a faulty FRM module other symptoms can be :

* windows not opening or closing
* lights not working or always on
* doors not locking or opening
* no indicators or tail lights.
* No communication possible with the ECU

I dont know anyone in Durban that can assist you. You welcome to drop me a PM if you need any further help

Thank you Danny .

I appreciate the response .

I’ve been reading a lot on the FRM module .

My windows work perfect.
My lights work interior and exterior.
Only my drivers door stopped working,
I also read that it’s better to scan it then to confirm .

I’m sure I’ll find someone in Durban with a proper bmw scan tool.

Thanks for the guidance.

Scan tools will give you a better idea of what is going on, however you can have a FRM module that seems okay and is not.
I had one recently that appeared to be okay, however the reverse lights weren't working and this is after a FRM repair was performed.

Its possible that you can get away with just a reset of short circuits within the module . Some scan tools can do the circuit reset.
For example cases of headlight failures on the one side after replacing the bulb with a brand new xenon bulb the headlight still doesn't work. Reset the short circuits and then the headlight starts to work again.
