Hi Guys,

my brother Changed his battery on his E90 323 BUT he was unaware of the fact that the battery needs to be registered with the car computer?

Is there anyway of doing this at home with out going into BMW or any body who is going to charge him for this?

is there any other way to fix it at home??

You can do the battery registration with INPA and a R200 ODB cable, it takes about 10 sec to do. The benefits are that the alternator and charging system recognizes the new battery and adapts the battery charging accordingly.

I can help you in Pretoria-East if you are willing to come to me, I have both INPA and DIS working.

find a workshop with a launch hand held diuagnostic machine, it can be easily done on that, also getting inpa working is going to be a schlep!

Getting INPA to work is as difficult as placing the order on ebay for $20 or so, waiting for the cable/dvd to arrive, install on a laptop and plugging in the cable.

Ebay vendors nowadays sell complete install packages, I even have SSS Progman and DIS working on my laptop, fresh off a dvd install using vmware images with no additional setups required.

I am considering getting ISTA-D and ISTA-D for the newer E/F-series cars, only problem is the hardware & software for that is still around $400.

@ blue shirt,

if an ebay version of inpa is fine for you then by all means go ahead, i found that ebay specials are missing parts of the daten files and ecu files and if your daten isnt complete then proceed at your own risk,

I agree, that's why you should carefully choose the vendor. I don't trust anything from China, I have thrown away several chinese-made D-CAN cables because they are unreliable.

I bought my INPA and SSS Progman installs with cable from a European vendor, they all work fine.

Hi Akash,

yeah this E90 is giving him problems even the water pump or so says the diagnostic test... but we just need to register the new battery with the car,
