E90 330d Rear Diff humming noise

Recently my rear diff has started humming, and it is getting worse by the day.
Is this a common problem on the E90 330d's? Does one have to replace it, or is there places that can recon it?

Could be tyres related. Had this noise on my 330i E46 and put my E46 330d wheels on the rear and noise was gone. Swopped the old back wheels left to right and noise was 98% gone. Just my 2c

If you can play the noise with your petrol pedal then its your diff. My car is currently in for a diff replacement. Get it sorted as soon as possible you might be lucky and its just the bearings. I drove mine with that noise for over a year and i did damage to the "big" gear on the inside (whatever it is called). if you are in Jhb i can give you a number for a guy that only replaces the bearing at a very reasonable rate. My car is getting a new diff now

My father had this problem with his e60 525i. Just before pulling the plug and purchasing a new diff, he removed the diff from the car and found that the main nut on the propshaft side was completely loose. It's like a 36 socket or something. The humming noise was most present on over run. Ie: coasting down hills in gear etc.

Have your rear wheelbearings checked before you do anything else. Had the same problem on both my Fathers 330d and my ex 330d. Everyone we took it to diagnosed diff on my fathers 330D and when it was eventually replaced it turned out to be the wheelbearings. On my ex 330d we suspected the same and I had the bearings changed. Noise was gone.

Same issue on my old 1 series, had brand new WANLI V Tread tyres on the rear when I bought it, was sure it was the diff but change tyres first and noise dissapeard

Thanks for all the advise.
But I don't think it can be my tires because they got replaced last week. So it must be the diff, does anyone know of a place in the Western Cape? I want to get it sorted out ASAP.:ty:

Was the noise there before or after you fitted tyres?
