E90 330D LCI Transmission Error

Hi Guys, Havent posted here in ages, but in need of some advice;


About a week ago, driving at 120km/h i accelerated about 50%. The car kicked down, and then seemed to go into neutral. it revved up and came up with a gearbox error. I stopped and switched off and on again. The car was fine. no more errors. I since then, have tried driving hard to get the error back, but it hasnt come back.
The gearbox does feel more jerky now than it has been about 40000km ago.

The car has 188000km and is completely standard. (keeping it standard took a lot of effort) I do have an aftermarket plan on this car, and it has been to the agents for every service. For various reasons, I don't want to take the car to BMW anymore. I was wondering if anyone knows of someone that can take a look at the car, and continue with services. because of the plan, the company has to be RMI approved.

If someone can tell me if I have a serious problem, or refer me to a good mechanic, it will be much appreciated!!

Where are you based.

Take the car to ZF for the gearbox.

For gearbox ZF.

Your gearbox might be low on oil best get it checked quick before you damage the box. Recon is not cheap.

+1 for Ross Duncan, but I can confirm for gearboxes you will need to go to ZF in Germiston.

Are you running the same circumference tyres on the same axle? Even a half flat tyre can cause all kinds of gearbox errors if left too long.

Dont waste time with transmission. Get it serviced quick. The millage is little high because they advise not to go above 150000km and preferably service at 120000km.

Yes, ive heard tyres cause gearbox problems. I do have correct tyre size and even wear.

Bud that's the clutches in your gearbox on their way out! Exact same thing happened to my dad's E90 330D lci, try accelerate at 120km/h with a little more than half throttle and it did exactly the same thing. Switch off and car's fine for a while and then it started happening more frequently so took it in and the clutches in the gearbox needed to be replaced. This was about 2 years ago so can't remember what the cost was but around R18-20k I think for the repair.
