Hi Guys

So I unlocked my temperature gauge on my E90 330d yesterday and by the time I got home (Midrand to Bedfordview) the coolant temperature was 87°C . Is this normal? Should it not be around 92-107°C.

Appreciate your help :ty:

diesels run more efficient and thus a bit cooler outside of start-stop traffic.. its actually not uncommon to struggle to heat up the engine if the car's termostat is bust..
if the engine temp falls below midway on long highway trips you might want to check if the thermostat is in working condition..

87 sounds pretty normal, my EGR thermostat and main thermostat were failing, so on the highway I'd sometimes see 50's and low 60's. I have changed the main thermostat and it now gets into the high 60's and mid 70's on the highway, and into the low 80's in town. Apparently the engine needs to reach about 88 degrees Celsius in order for the DPF to regen, but don't quote me on it.

netercol and Spannie, Thank you so much for your answers.

Yeah Spannie I saw your post on changing your thermostat and that made me think I should check mine hence why I did this yesterday.

Really appreciate it guys :ty:

Glad I could assist bud! I'll report back when I've changed my EGR thermostat this Friday.

i agree with the sentiments above, expect it to drop a little on the freeways, but from my research on the matter, it should be around the 87-91 mark. Another thing to consider is how long it takes to get to that temp. I haven't measured mine, but its way quicker to operating temps now than prior to the thermostat change.
