E90 323i Red ring of Death on Key Fob

Gents,

Mate of mine is having an issue with his Beemer, when he pushes any of the buttons on his Key Fob, there is a Red Ring around the BMW logo that flashes, he did put a new battery in the key fob and still same result. the slot in the car does take the Fob but dash does not light up at all, even got him to hold it in there for 10 Seconds and nada.

Any suggestion or advice on what could be wrong,

He also mentioned that he drove the car to work this morning and it was all good, got to work and the alarm when off, key didn't respond so he disconnected the battery and reconnected it.

Any help of suggestions would be appreciated, im also trying to get him to come to the ice-cream meet this friday

What area is he in i know a guy thats not so bad with price but he is based in JHB will come out cut and code a new key wats app me for details 0722567972 car model make and a pic of the key

Car was towed to BMW springs, they found the key to be fong kong and the metal part of the key also dont lock or unlock the door

Soooo an update, we phoned the dealer and gave him up hill and BMW sent the quote, 12K for new lockset and keys coded all in........After much BS going around and uncovering, the dealer finally approved and gave the go ahead

So what was the cause of this, because it sounds like this is just a quick get rid of the complainant so we order him the whole thing, new locks and keys.

Doesnt sound like the problem was identified?

Could get it sorted for cheaper are they doing it under warranty? Or is he paying cash?

Key was a pirate key, the dealership is paying BMW for new keys and lockset to be fitted.
