Hi guys

New to the forum and most definitely a noob question.

I have a 2009 NON IDRIVE 320i e90 and its never had its software updated.

1) would this be a good idea as i only get 10ks/L and its stock standard
2) would i get more power
3) how the hell do i do this myself?

Thanks guys

Hi Bud,

Welcome and here are my replies to your questions:

1. Software updat for your car will be system update, en ECU update won;t help the 320i at all, if not even a little as it is still lugging a huge body around. it works against it unfortunately
2. It is possible but not enough t o actually feel or help your car. At the coast perhaps you will feel more of a difference but in Jhb it will still be low on power.
3. Normally BMW does it but if you want to do ECU software, go to one of our forum advertisers. ala. RK Motion or Xcede.

P.S. Actually nor i remember that RK Motion made a 1.6 Vivo fly with software, call Keithan and find out what he can do for your car?

The only way you get more power out of a 320i is to sell it and buy something more powerful

this did dawn on me after reading a couple of threads however im stuck with her for the next 3 years and what to somehow make the best of it.

One mechanic suggested i put a turbo kit on?

Dont waste your time or money. Its money you'll never get back. Rather accept the car for what she is, make the most of her for the time being and upgrade when you can

Turbo the 320i is not a bad idea, I investigated it when i had mine and If my wife didn't fall pregnant i probably would have done a turbo on the car.

its your money and up to you how you want to get more power, don't worry about needing to sel and buy something better etc,. if yo ucan get more power and willing to spend the cash, then by all means go for it!

I do agree that buying the 320i was a stupid idea, however it was a fan flippen tastic deal and i got it for a great price.

When the naysayers say dont waste your time i always think about the other cars like 1.4 citi golfs and those other Vtecs, people mod the shit out of that and they fly.

My one mate has a 1.4 citi golf pushing 109kws? So there must be hope.

Any good ideas of whom to contact for turbo?

Well When I wanted to do it, Rob Green had a good package and Sarel Els (i think it was that Sarel)...I could be incorrect however it would have ended up being a great car with a strong bottom enough to handle a little turbo fun
