E90 320d, deep exhaust sound, no boost.

Hi guys.

I've been having an issue with my car, every now and then when I start my car it has a deep exhaust sound and it doesn't boost until I reach 3000rpm. Most days I just switch my car on and off a couple of times and it is fine again?

Any ideas on what might be the issue?

It doesn't smoke
No warning lights

Just a deep sound and no boost.

I think I have a similar problem, except the deep exhaust sound. Some days it work perfectly and some no boost. This is the error code I get.

There are a few things you can try do and test :

1) Check and Clean MAP, MAF and EGR valve also.
2) Unplug the MAF sensor. If the car behaves then you have a faulty MAF
3) Check the Turbo Actuator - Could be stuck.
4) Pull intake pipe off the turbo, check if the turbo has not seized.
5) Turbo - Could be a problem with the variable vanes inside that turbo and
that would require a removal and repair on the turbo

Deep exhaust note is normally as a result of open vanes, the vanes are normally open at higher revs, so i believe it might be related to the vanes either being stuck, or actuator issues
