E90 320D clutch

I have been experiencing problems with a shudder in my clutch in first gear when it gets hot in traffic. The car is under motorplan so with the last service I requested that it be looked at.

The dealer was "kind" enough to tell me that cause there were no errors and the technician couldn't find any problems they didn't look at the clutch. This was after she argued with me about whether or not there even was any issues when I booked the car in.

Needless to say after several comments from friends about the shudder, I was not impressed.

Not long after I got a call from service company to do the usual follow up and to see how happy I was with the service, I used some choice words to tell them what I thought about the dealers attitude and the next day the dealer phones me to book the car in again.

So the car went in again and the workshop manager phones me a half an hour after I dropped of the car. He was personally taking the car for a test drive and couldn't understand what the service agent was trying to explain about the problem.

At the end of the day I got the car back and they had to replace the clutch and the flywheel.

The car is a completely different animal now. The clutch is smooth and my fuel consumption has improved from 13.6 km/l to 14.7 km/l.

Unfortunately they couldn't tell me what was wrong. I was wondering if there was an upgrade clutch that came out with the facelift model or if this is just what the clutch should have been like all along.

i friend of mine has owned the 120d and a E90 320d.Both cars had the same symptoms of shuddering clutch. After putting up a fuss BMW replaced clutches in both cars under motorplan.

But it definately is a problem so if anyone has the same issues i urge them to press BMW for replacement clutch.

And keep complaining until they make a plan. It works to be annoying.

I also feel a very slight shudder on my clutch I had someone look at it. They said that the flywheel is the problem as clutch is fine. Never do anything as yet as it is very slight and only now and then so saving up for that huge bill when clutch needs to be changed.

My car had 77000km on the clock when I did the fix. So luckily undermotorplan, cause they told me it would have cost R20 000 to do the repair at the stealer.

Apparently the OEM clutch plates had some sort of fault with the friction material used that caused the shuddering.

Using a good quality aftermarket replacement clutch usually solves the problem.
