e90 320D 2006 Model(some blue smoke)

Hi guys ,

Trust you all are well ,

I never noticed this before (obviously)

Sometime yesterday i was following the wifey around and when she would pull away from me i would see some blue smoke would appear .

This would happen everytime she had come to a stop and take off. Is this a concern?

Some history on the car.
She is in perfect shape all round . Not a single issue with her lately and the computer tells me i am 4000kms away from the 161000kms service.

I want to know if i can put some Diesel octane stuff in the tank and if this is a good idea , what brand should i use?

The smoke can be various things, on your millage id have the cat removed and bad quality oil(castrol, shell) contributes to the car smoking a bit. Id have the oil changed at the next service with some quality oil and see how things go from there.

On the subject of additives you are looking for a cetane additive for the diesel, best off the shelf stuff is Liqui Molly Super Diesel Additive.

Im going to suggest looking at your oil breather filter it sits on the tappet cover right at the back or potentially warn turbo seals causing oil to leak into the combustion or exhaust system and resulting in the white/blue smoke.I would however get the cat removed and while you at it inspect the exhaust side of the turbo for excessive oil residue. You also bound to have oil buildup in your boost pipes and intercooler so get those removed, degreased and cleaned up nicely aswell

She goes like a rocket, good investment if you plan on keep your car for the long run. I'm currently running Mobil1 5w-30 EPS oil and man that stuff is liquid gold!! wouldn't put anything ells in again...ever.

why is that there is mixed feelings wrt to decat etc etc

In short if your car has a sensor in the exhaust fit a cat fooler when doing the downpipe its a few 100 rands to the price, if your car doesn't have a sensor then you don't need a cat fooler.

blue smoke used to mean seals but ja i don't know these cars well enough to contribute.

turns out , it was just due for service !!!

now she is still flying as normal and no blue msoke ......

this car is awesome!!!!
