E60 Audio

Hey everyone,

Does anyone know whether there is an upgrade available to get my 2006 E60 audio system to read MP3 disks. I played around with the options when writing to disc and no luck. I can see the file structure but it won't give any audio.

What type of discs are your using ? CD-RW or just CD-R ?

Its strange that you can see the files though ..

What bit rate do the MP3's use?

I know some units don't like the varible rate MP3's

You are using MP3's right? :fencelook:

Do you have CD Text,

If not, no MP3 for you...

What you can however do is change out the CD shuttle for a device that emulates the shuttle, but you can plug an ipod or something.

What is available as standard, is a Aux In plug, that you can wire to the radio and you will have an aux function on the idrive.

I have cd text and tried the disc in the front loader to no avail. My car doesnt have an aux input. Don't ask me why. My older e90 had less audio crap than this.

Mine is pre facelift

If you have CD text, Mp3 should be working, I suggest further googling, bimmerforums has discussed this topic extensively.

Aux input was not standard on the E60, but can be retrofitted.

Is there an input on the rear of the head unit or does one require a separate module that interfaces with the iDrive?

seperate module,

You actually need to select aux within the idrive so there is no getting around it, you cut into the MOST optical bus.
