E60 18" tyres question

Hi Guys,

A quick question. On a sportpack 18" wheel. What are the standard tyre sizes front and rear?

Due to there being a spare wheel in the boot is run flats required for Motorplan?

I have normal tires and a space saver, car been for 2 services, a pulley replacement and that issue I had with my seat belt warning light, and no issues. BMW does not void your plan for having normal tires contrary to some believe.

Nope. they don't. Only tires that have the star is runflat tires.

You can have normal tyres, if you have a flat and call BMW on Call they will charge to fit space saver for you. Does not void MP

Karsh my m-sport has 245/40/18 front and rear. But there were different rims that were optional on the car, some were staggered others werent. I have style 135.

My car was under motorplan when i bought it and it came with normal tyres and no issues, but it also wasnt a problem for me as i wasnt extending motorplan.

We have 245/45 R18 all round. Standard should be 245/40 front and 255/40 rear?

Anyway, we needed a bigger side wall for the potholes.

according to the sticker on the inside of the door, the size for the square set is 245/40/18, if its the narrow wide, then i think it was something else.

I dont recall seeing a 245/45 option on that sticker though... will check.

does 18inch tires have deeper thread than 19's?

Deeper thread. ..? I was under the impression that tyres all had about 9mm thread brand new.

I've seen a few 19's, they don't seem to have the same deep thread when new. So considering going 18, as I want a bigger rim then 17, but don't want to have to replace tires more often, then on the 17's.

As for more thread on an 18 than 19. I assume so. 19s have a 20 000km lifespan. But this also depends on the profile of the tyre. A bigger profile will have more thread?

This doesnt make sense to me, i can understand manufacturers putting more tread on smaller tyres and giving less life span to bigger tyres, but i doubt there is a correlation between profile and tread depth.

I confirm on my sticker on the door, the staggered set would 245/40 and 275/35

275 on 8 inch wheels might be a bit too wide, and the tyres might flex more when cornering. Will check what the recommended width is for 275.
