Can anybody tell me what are the Pro's and Con's of the e46 320i.

con: uses the same fuel as the other 6 cyl but you dont get the power

What year model? The 1999-2001 320i has the M52 engine in which is only good for one thing basically: Massive Turbo

The facelift 320i has the M54 engine which is allot better, more torquey and some decent power. Nothing wrong with one.

nope

320i went from 2l to 2.2l (not sure what other changes were made)
323i changed into 325i with different management, intake and exhaust (both have the same engine otherwise)
328i was discontinued
330i was released but it is very different to the 328i

you do get Pre F/L 330i and 325i but they only have different bodys the engine is the same as the facelift as far as i know...

I never said the pre facelift only came with the M52. What I'm trying to get across is the M52 320i is good for turbo charging and not much else and the M54 320i is allot better all round.

Sorry got from your post that 1999 - 2001 did not have the M54
What I was getting at is that some 2001 models do have the M54 and that he should check first.

I agree M54 is much better than the M52.

Maintenance wise it costs more or less the same as a 325i & 330i would.

But other then that, they are great cars :thumbsup: I would have bough an e46 320i if the e36 328i didn't come my way

the M54B22 had double vanos whereas the the prefacelift didn't.

are you sure because the all the other M52TUB had double vanos as far as i know the M52B found in the e36 were single...

so then the M52TUB20 found in the pre F/L 320i should also be double vanos

The M52 pre-facelift 320i has a terrible throttle cable. I hate it. :yuck:
