Hi Everyone

My windscreen sprayer warning light has been coming on more than usual lately, so i had a look and it seems that this thing (have pointed to in the pic) seems to be leaking water. Does anyone know what this thing is? would it be ok if i taped the thing up to stop it from leaking? just around where i have pointed to as you can see there is a drop of water on it, it appears to have been taped up by the previous owner internally (around the shaft that actually goes down into the water tank) i replaced the tape but its still leaking, i can see around the outside of the housing that it is leaking and now i just wanna tape the damn thing up instead of replacing the whole thing, it just seems like a waste at the moment especially since i have just spent alot of money fixing up my oil leaks . would there be anything wrong with that? i dont see why i cant since this thing doesn't get hot or anything. any opinions??? thanks in advance

That is the water pump.
It will leak from a small rubber O Ring that it is inserted into
Get another O Ring

^^^^ What he said! had to replace a water pump like this last year, iirc got it from Masterparts (Febi) for a good price compared to the agents. Luckily the rubber O-ring was still fine though, but this is what is causing the leak no doubt.

If theleak is from the hole in the casing just epoxy it up, i think the intenal seal leaks after a while. Motor might fail down the line from overheating. If the leak is lower down its the rubber seal.

thanks guys, it appears it is infact leaking from the that little hole in the housing and not from the rubber seal. looks like im just gonna have to seal it up for now and then look at getting a new pump.

You mean on the pump itself? If so, I would just go to Masterparts and get a Febi replacement pump which shouldn't cost more than R200, maybe less (not sure what they sell for now), and definitely cheaper than the agents (I would just double check the agents price though, you never know).

when I 1st got my car it was leaking at the O ring I fixed that a few years later the plastic on the pump housing cracked and started leaking...
