Hi all
So my neighbour (well 6 houses away) had his E46 M3 stolen early this morning...
We're in Zimbabwe, so not very surprising
There wasnt any broken glass where this car was parked....so there are alot of theories being drawn up right now on how it was done.
i personally think it was too clean, so i suspect someone had cloned the key and transponder somehow... but its got me thinking.. how easy is the E46 to steal?
i know the hilux and fortuner had "specifics" involved in their theft, but i dont know what the weak points are of the E46. from what i understand, the transponder is paired with the EWS..which is paired with the ECU.
so im assuming that if someone has an ECU, EWS and matching transponder.. then its a case of swap and go right? To get to the ECU is easy from what i've seen once the bonnet is lifted..and EWS is also fairly accessible once inside the vehicle.
My car is an auto.. so im thinking of wiring in a switch that goes to the neutral safety switch (aka gear position sensor) on the gearbox. then hide the switch somewhere. the idea being that the switch wont work because of the intercept from my home made switch. there is also a way to intercept the auto circuit from the brake pedal im sure. to shift to reverse or drive, you have to hold the brake first
thoughts??
