there are 3 torx screws on either side of the sunroof. Remove those and take the whole glass out from the top. Then inspect the mechanism. Then take out the allen key from the tool kit as use that to operate the sunroof while checking for the faulty components. Remove the interior light t get to the manual allen key override.
E46 sunroof is quite easy to work on. IS the sunshade fine. That usually breaks the clips and those sometimes find their way into the mechanism causing jams.
If what he has explained,is what I had it is a big job to fix but not difficult to fix.
Whatever you do DON"T force the sunroof it works on a gear and if strip that gear it is 6500 bucks for new motor (the gear is welded to the motor). Don't let the roof move either, if it makes the grinding noise instead of moving stop cause that is the gear girding it own teeth away. :RedNo:
