Finally got around to doing the passenger side rear wheel bearing.
Took me about 5 hours to complete. Did stripe a 10mm hex bolt on the axel but quickly came up with a solution to hammer in a 9mm socket to get it off.
was really tired so I didn't take pics of every single step invloved...but enough info to get the job done.
*note mark the axel & hub before you get it out of the hub...apparently if you go back the same way its easier...i did the first mistake and ended up rotating the axel till it fit back in again...like a combination lock process.
First off thanks "TEAMDFL" for listing the steps he took to get this done.
didn't have my regular camera so I had to use my phone.
and thanks 1sick bimmer for the deal on the tool and the 30mm socket.
got the tool from "1sick bimmer" he also included the 30mm socket
1.get your car on jackstand
2.remove your wheel
3.remove entire brake assembly and hang it off the rear spring, set everything else aside
4. remove the rotor/ if its your first time then get a Hand Impact driver
5.look at the 30mm nut get a flat head and hammer to straighten out the bent pieces so you can get it unscrewed. sorry forgot to take pic.
6. start removing the 6x 10mm bolts off your axel-->diff be ver careful they are soft and can stripe easily ( go ahead and ask me) drop the sway bar for clearance. oh and had to run back and fourth to pull the ebrake while I unbolt each one. *sigh*
the jack in the middle is insurance I have two jack stand on the rear pads
7. slide the axel out from under the car, sway must be dropped in order to do this. set aside
8. getting of the hub ( had to rent the slide hammer from autozone)
9.get ear plugs, that $hit was loud...Yes! its fianlly off
10. remove old snap ring
11. extract old bearing. found two over sized moneky wrenches and worked with that. this was a workout!
12.cleaning: pretty much everything you just got yourself invloved with...clean it)
13.install new bearing using the right pieces from your bearing tool.
14.install new snap ring, use a strong flat head to help guide it into the groove.
15.press in the hub pretty much the same way as the bearing just using different size press
16.now that your hub is in and you marked it with the axel, get it back into position and start pushing in the axel through the hub. when it got to a certain point and I could push anymore, I used a 3lb hammer to tap it in from the other end. Once if went through I bolted on the 30mm nut and torq to 250lbs
17. remember to loctite your axel to diff bolts with blue...use red if you want, it doesnt matter.
18. no pics for putting everything back
mount back sway bar, install brake,
doing this for the drivers side...damn it have to remove the exhaust! :banghead:
