E46 Radio

Hi guys, I am assisting a friend rebuild a 320i E46 that he bought accident damaged. The car had a cassette radio unit and he bought a CD front loader unit. The CD unit wrote "disabled" on the screen and won't turn on, we tried another unit and it did the same thing. Does the new unit need to be coded or what?

Unit as far as I know is plug and play

AFAIK you need to code it to the car and region. Do a simple google search for step by step instructions. Think it was posted on e46fanatics.
