E46 m47 recommended diesel

I have searched everywhere for this with no luck...

What diesel is recommended for the E46 320D? I have been using 10ppm for over 5 months now as I was under the impression that it is healthier for the injectors and performs better.

Please note that it has some mods, and I'm not sure if this might alter the ppm necessary for optimal performance and engine longevity:
DP + Full exhaust
Hybrid turbocharger (actuator is still on std setting so just getting more volume)
EGR delete
Software

I am mainly concerned about the components that rely on lubrication from the diesel. The car also has 340k on the clock. Motor hasn't been opened yet so very happy about that.

Also, what oil do you guys recommend? I am currently using Shell HX8 Fully Synthetic. I must say that this oil takes a lot longer to change colour as opposed to Magnatec, which in my books is a good thing.

10Ppm 50ppm or 500Ppm are all fine, the key is to use a busy station that always has a fresh supply of fuel to reduce the risk of contamination. Shell HX7,HX8 or Helix Ultra are all good oils and are suitable.

Awesome, thanks man.

There's a busy Total garage close to where I work, Afrit is right next to them so trucks fill up there every day.

Think I'll try one tank 50ppm and after that R200 500ppm, just to see how she reacts.

I don't know if I'm just imagining things but the engine noise seems quite loud compared to when I bought it earlier this year. Maybe she doesn't like 10ppm...

Will try and remember to give feedback on this, as I have a full tank 10ppm atm.

diesels run a lot louder with 10Ppm compared to 50 and 500. 500 has more sulphur content but is better for lubrication in the fuel system. if you have a new diesel with a cat or dpf 500ppm will destroy it. but the older diesels are good to go with 500ppm. 50Ppm is a nice balance between 10 & 500. both 50 & 10 have additives in the fuel to makeup for lower sulphur content but nothing is more satisfying that that black smoke trail from 500ppm on an older diesel:smilebounce: I would suggest running about 30l of each before switching to the next to get a good comparison:thumbs:

50ppm as a minimum. 500ppm is a no go. 10ppm would be best. If want some extra oomph with your mods, try some performance diesel or octane booster from 24/7 race fuels.

What effect will 500ppm have then on my motor? Because it has no cat and no exhaust gas recirculation. Won't it actually be the safer option because of the lubrication and my mileage?

A little more smoke especially on pull away. Motor will run quieter. Power might be less on top end but lower down I found more torque. As long as you beat the hell out of it on occasion you will be good. Also listen to Nikhil.

basically what Waseem said above and a quieter engine and a little better consumption

Yeah I smash it at least once a day, just to make sure I actually finally did the mods and it's not just a dream, ya know... So it should be fine.

10ppm smells f#cking terrible when I start her up in the morning too. I remember the good ol days when my grandfather would start up his Isuzu that ran on 500ppm. That's a smell I can live with.

Hey guys, a little update on diesel usage.

I filled up with 50ppm and the motor is a lot quieter, consumption is down and I can definitely feel a power gain. Also smells better on cold start.

Also, check out my first skid pan experience -
