Had my heart set on a E46 M3 (as I think its better looking and suits my needs) then I drove a 335i.
Now I am confused as the 335i was awesome......please help.

What would you buy?

M3 all the way.

I had a 335, and up here it is slightly quicker, but oh so boring compared to the M3.

Put it this way, the day I sold it, I wasn't particularly sad. Signed the papers, gave him the key and said, enjoy.

The M3 is a car that make you think of any excuse to go for a drive. It transforms any journey into an experience. The 335 though, is just a very capable machine, nothing more.

I have not owned both , so from a non emotional view the 335i is the better buy .

The cost of running a M3 as a daily drive is higher , you get every golf coming up next to you for a TLGP !!

The 335i is quick , just more civilized and should cost less to mod .

M3 for the heart , 335i for the head .....Good luck ..

Ignore the thread if you dont like it!!!!! Easy. ..... jeesh!

Anyway mixed replies here. Thanks for the replies.

I think Mk1 summed it up well......M3 is a drivers car and a 335i is a capable car.

LOL

I've had 3 BMW's before my current one, and has driven many more.

Yes, the 335 is perhaps the wiser choice, especially with it's performance potential up here. But let's face it, it just another 3 series. It just happens to be very fast.

The M3 is the petrol head's choice. It begs to be driven hard, and reward you like no other car.

Soulblade and I went to a trackday at Z a few years ago. Me in the 335 and him in his E46 M3. I took him for a few laps, and then I was a passenger in his car. That day I truly understood the magic of an M car. The only other car I had that could come close to it was my S2000.

I've driven both, the 335 is awesome, but its not an ///M car.

What are you looking for in your car? Sitting in a 335i, you feel surrounded by a sophisticated and luxurious car that is both technological and fast. The e46 M3 isn't any of those. Its a plain monster.... and I love it. Its rough, its edgy, its ruthless.

There is just something about sitting in an M3 that makes me know this car is ready to kill someone. The car speaks to you in so many ways whilst you drive. Just the feeling of the seats, the weight of the door as you close it, its not a soft sound like the 335i, its a loud thunk... its hard. The M3 was built to be aggressive, look aggressive and make you smile whilst doing time trials to buy bread at the local garage.

They are both amazing machines, and if you are getting a 335i, I hope you are going for the e92 coupe and not the 4 door.

But purely for the driver inside me, my money would be on the M3.

+1 all the way.

... on the other hand, if you really wanted advise that would be beneficial then it is important to also state what you need the car for and what do you intend to do with it.

If your aim is to build a monster easily that will impress your friends at the dyno then go x35 :fencelook:

For everything else, take the ///M3 :inlove:

I'd buy a 335i cos I can have in auto. Changing gears is so yesterday :fencelook:

And yes I think SMG sucks :thumbdo:

I'll go sit in a corner now by my lonely self, cos everyone else is going to disagree with the autobox :nonono:

Obviously not easy to make a straight forward comparison. Rather define what it is that you are looking for and then look at which of the 2 best meets your requirements.

M cars are great but you are talking about 2 different generations of BMW's and a lot of the times the newer cars will offer a more well rounded and balanced package and most likely easier on the wallet.

I think also price makes a diff.. If u spending 300k on a M3, u getting a clean car.. U spend 300k on a 335i, u gettin a OK car.. in terms of condition

:flyfun: not another one of these debates

the x35i is not boring so if you say that you are not a true petrol head even if you claim to be one. the m3 may be more exciting on the track but i for one dont spend much time on the track if any.

each to their own but trust me when i leave the e46 m3 behind on the road that m3 driver will wish he had bought the x35i. and if he doesnt then he made the right choice in purchasing his e46 m3.

Im a sucker for New(er) things.
So even though the M is a magnificent car, for the same money I think I'd go for the x35i, even if its a 4 door.

Newer car, newer tech and much more and cheaper options to do with as you please down the line.

Depending on why Im buying the car, I would go x35i all day, every day.
Nothing compares to an M, and that means in cost as well as enjoyment, but an x35i wont fail to impress with the hammer down or over a long comfy drive.

If it were my money, tough decision, but if its not a 3rd (or 2nd car in other peoples case) then it wont be the M.
