boxes look identical thou just the middle one seems a bit smaller than the e36 ones im sure the pipes wont work as the design of the car is different but the boxes itself i dont see how it cant fit unless the pipes on a e46 are bigger could be wrong but they look very alike apart from the 1 box

E36M likes a dual system with 63mm only at the rear. Upfront its smaller. The balancers are important for torque

Dont think the E46 boxes are a good idea as it was specd specifically for the E46. Something to remember the guys at BMW spent close to 10months only developing the exhaust component on the E46. That alone will say it was built for that car.

I rather say get the proper E36 boxes of aftermarket ones. As mentioned Powerflow in Randburg spent a lot of time working and perfecting the setup for the E36. I know this cause my car was used as the test car.

Hope this helps

This does help do you have any specs on the middle boxes from powerflow cause the guys here will fit any box thing is i want the car soft at low revs but a nice rasp sound at middle to high revs i have the OEM pipes on but my one middle box is broken makes a horrible sound but this was a 3L exhaust i put on it has a very roary 6cylinder sound with a nice rasp to it but the sound is very uneven it sounds nicer at mid revs than it sounds at high revs my old box sounded completely insane at high revs miss that sound pitty it was just too loud

The center box can be two round boxes with approx 400 in size ( this replaces the cat) , then that joins to a odd 200 box in size (this has to have the torque balancers before and after the box in place, which then joins to a offset freeflow box in the rear(approx size of 600 or 800)

This is just roughly the measurements i remember, When im back in the office. i will put up some pics at of how the install should look etc.

Please , please dont just rush off and install the exhaust as you dont want to regret the choice and you dont want to be spending more money after a wrong install.

E36M exhaust is very delicate and has to be built according to spec otherwise car is going to be just a normal Beemer.

Also bear in mind 57mm tubing used up front which then goes into 63mm tubing at the rear.

Isn't the two middle boxes on the E46 ///M the cats? Why would you want to put cats into your car?

So are you back at the office yet? Would really like to see those pics and get the exact measurements of the exhaust setup you referring to as I'm ready to do the exhaust on my E36 M3:rollsmile:
