Now that I have your attention, I was wondering if there are E46 M3 CSL owners on the forum as its known as one of the best built M cars out there , apart from the SMG gearbox.
Want to know about feel and poise of the car compared to the standard one and perhaps stories of any shoot outs you may have had.

Was thinking of getting one

Pics would be great too.

This reply is in response to the above... as I am not sure if you are referring to a CSL or a normal M3

I have owened a e46 323i, both Na and supercharged... and I can tell you,the M3 is another beast. Completely different car. Doesn't feel anywhere the same. Even tho my Supercharged 323i could stick with some M3's, it just wasn't the same feeling. The 323i was massaged and refined, the M3 is RAW. The doors are heavy, they make a big CLUNK noise when you open or close them, nothing soft about it.

Driven slowly, its comfortable and can get you from A to B with no fuss, very similar to the other ///M cars when driven like a granny, but it has this connection with the ground surface that I have not felt in any other car I've ever driven, be it 135i or e92 M3, yes, I said it, even the V8 M3 doesn't feel as connected to the ground as the e46. Its very Raw... The car talks to you, you feel very connected to it. Like I mentioned, the doors sound Brutish, the whole car is built that way, to give off this bad ass "I don't do soft" image. My 323i when supercharged was damn fast and fun, but it was lacking in the communication with the road sector.

Sure my ///M3 has Bilstein PSS10 Coilovers and Stoptech big brakes, and it corners like a machine, but overall, the car is just legendary. There aren't many words to describe it really.

I dont own one but the CSL M3 is regarded as one of the best M3's to have ever been built by BMW.

I stand to be corrected but the SMG issues that the e46 M3 had were sorted by the time the CSl was produced.

All I can say is that when I still had my e46 M3 and got into a CSL, it felt like a completely different car.
Honestly, if I had to close my eyes and were driven along in the CSL, I would never have guessed it to be anything close to a normal e46 M3. Seating position is obviously completely different and no door or center armrests, ride is MUCH harder and the sound is completely different.
Strangely this particular CSL which has been painstakingly maintained and with very low mileage, was no faster than a normal M3 here at the reef

Lightened- different headers , alcantara seats and the introduction of CF makes this a very different track prepped car

I`ve been in the suicide seat next to a very capable driver around Gerotek were we entered the high speed corner close to 260,,,the car just handled everything the road surface threw at it even the unforgiving little dip on the exit of the corner could not unsettle the suspension. That same dip caught out many a car and driver ending up in the barriers.
I can vouch for this awesome car!

The CSL is probably what all M3's should be, raw and untamed. They are fantastic cars and if given half a chance I would own one (but the boss lady will say no....always...).
They evoke images of hectic powerslides with unbelievable control, but of a precision machine that was always on the edge. There was a woman who lived in Bedfordview who used one as her daily drive, I never saw that thing (and I saw her a couple times on the freeway) going more than about 110km/h.
I know they still command good money,IF you can find one for sale.

I would get one in a heart beat. The sound and feedback the car gives is really unique and no other M car that I have driven, comes remotely close.

Such a pleasure to drive.

Here's some technical data on the difference between the normal M and the CSL

I've been in one as passenger, it is a beast of note, definitely is one of M-Divisions finest moments as far as drivers machines go......:praise:

A buddy of mine has a used car garage and he had one CSL on the floor and took me for a spin...

It was epic. I cannot explain the feeling. Raw, brutal, inspiring... It stirred every unexplained and untouchable emotion in me. It ripped my heart out and stole it forever. It’s one of those moments in life that you know would not be complete until you owned one.

To me, it's my Sofia Vergara. For its age, nothing comes close! I would take the CSL over ANY other car in the market.
