Hi guys

After misjudging one to many speed bump my manifold has cracked

The Stealers want R11000 for the manifold.

Anyone know of alternative options.

Also what spanner or socket is required to unbolt the Turbo.

Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Mike, my son bought a brand new cast iron manifold for his 2005 X5 complete with bolts, nuts, gaskets, from the UK and might want to sell as the problem on his car was a leaking injector pipe which caused the smoke and smell. He might want to sell. Can ask him if you are interested.

I only have for the petrol engine and not the diesel, I'm positive that they are different, sorry bud.

The manifold Solo Man mentions is the same one I fitted on my car thanks to the Stainless item being cracked in numerous places.

I removed the injectors, tappet cover, etc. and went that way. Seems like a lot of work, but was far easier to remove the manifold and turbo like that. I also needed to have the injectors refurbed, and I removed the swirl flaps so made sense. I think doing it without removing all that stuff will be rather difficult.

I can't recall what tool is required to remove the turbo bolts, but a quick google should tell you.

Thx Luigi the confirmation helps lots.

You correct in removing inlet manifold, injectors, tapped cover and then you get to the turbo and manifold.

Was in there 2 weekends ago welding up the cracks.

Seems it could be a dual skin manifold and welding it up is not the solution.

I might see if I can make a few after removing it from stainless flanges and schedule 40 pipe.

Should be able to build them for much less than the stealers.

ok so the manifold cracking is a design flaw and is bound to happen I take it you have the 150kw engine.

I did a diy replacement a few years back, you just need to remove the vacuum tank and windshield washer bottle to get the manifold out. once rotate it so the turbo flange faces the side of the car, move the manifold slightly forward and lift up... and boom manifold out

Hi Solo Man

Thx to you and your son. My 330d pulls like train again.
Low boost lag is now gone too that there is a solid manifold back in place.

The stainless press plate manifold was cracked to pieces.

Will post a pic.
