E46 330ci Convertible (soft top reliability)

Hi

Does anyone know if the E46 convertible roof mechanism give problems or if the owners of these cars are experiencing any issues.

My previous convertible (E36 328i) had many issues like leaking, roof getting stuck halfway, not closing fully which resulted in a lot of frustration. Hence I am a bit reluctant.

As far as know the only difference between the 2 is that the e36 has a manual locking system and the e46 has an automated locking system.

So i think the same problems will still apply.

Later models (1998) had the automated locking system. Think the E46 uses some sort of hydraulic system.

Think alot of the issues would be caused by improper maintenance or poor repair work, I had an E36 convertible for over 8 years and never had a days issue, worked perfectly. Only thing i did was give the canvas and rear window a once yearly treatment with the BMW approved cleaning materials....

The e36 had a hydraulic operating system wherear the e46 has an electronic motor.
