e46 320d - Whistling/rattling noise

Hi Everyone.
Car is an '03 320d approaching 199 000 kms. Completely standard.

When accelerating a sound which to me sounds like a combination of a whistle and a rattle (if that makes sense) can be heard.
It's my dad's car and I heard it when I was driving aggressively on 2 separate occasions.
He couldn't replicate it with normal driving until he kept the car in high revs for a while, and then it could be heard.

There is no power loss, and the car is performing as it always has.

Please advise what it could be and if anyone has had similar issues.

I guess it could be a few things.

Worn injectors can rattle under acceleration.
Tensioners perhaps need some attention (see what I did there :fencelook
Sticky Tappets or turbo bearings?

A mate of mine had a similar issue and he checked out two things (not sure which was the culprit) but he had shed a tooth on one of the gears and noticed a broken exhaust bracket.

whistle could be a boost leak and the rattling is possibly injectors or even a loose exhaust
