E46 320d Issue

Hi Guys,

I am experiencing a rather perplexing problem with my car. 2 weeks ago at the mall it wouldn't start. was cranking fine but no starting. I disconnected battery and reconnected and it started. a few days later did the same thing and all i did was lock doors and unlock while sitting in and it started. then this week again problem came, cranking fine but no start. tried everything as before but just couldnt start. Took it to BMW as i was near dealership and they came back and said they suspected was fuel pump and filter and asked for me to approve that they change the parts (R8000) and they would then diagnose further. Told them to leave it and i would come tow the car. they put parts back and when i got there first thing i did was try start the car and it started first time and i drove it home.

I am going change the filter but i am confused now as to what could be the cause of this? It has a skytrax installed. If this unit is malfunctioning could it mess about with the car immobiliser?

Yesterday i tried to start and it was doing the same, cranking but not firing up. left it for 5 minutes and tried again and it started.

Any ideas?

Hey Guy, yes thats a annoying one! :argh:

Im not sure what the 'skytrax' is, is it an immoboliser/anti hi jack unit, or just a tacker system? I would definitely start by having that diagnosed first.

The fuel pump it wouldn't be, then it would be a more consistant problem, or even have the engine dying while you are driving. These cars are very electronically orientated, so I would suggest start with the simple stuff, like that 'skytrax' system, if possible have it removed completely, drive the car and see what happens.

If it still does the same, change fuel filter, then have injectors checked out etc.

Thats what I would have done, hope you get it sorted!
