Can one bypass the tv so that it works whilst driving? I'm still waiting for my owners manual so I can look it up.

Bossie,

That setting you will not find in the owners manual, although it can be done...

Google it, although its a safety feature, there for a reason...

To bypass the driving safety on the screen is pretty difficult, BMW built it in very deep in the hardware and software. There are gadgets that you can buy to bypass it, Im just not sure if they will work, and they arent cheap. Im actually just going to replace the whole unit in my car with a double din dvd player with 7" screen.

If you install the 7" double din, will your steering audio functions and cd shuttle still work with the new setup, what make are you planning to use?
I would love to install such a system.

I am going to install an Alpine IVA W505. It has connections for the steering wheel, so, you can still use the buttons there, can be a gps, and have a reverse camera. Its a very good unit. I think its around R11k for it.

I wouldnt really worry about using the CD shuttle, if I can connect a USB drive to the HU, as well as playing DVDs.

BMW E39 DVD can give your BMW 5 passengers the option of entertainment on long journeys. And, with the quality of the picture and audio increasing, the sky is the limit.

I have a 1997 E39 with Tape deck radio an cd shuttle in the boot.
Will your unit be compatible and when you replace, would you consider me please?

Bypassing the factory TV is easy as pie..... Google it, I can't remember exactly but it's just a double button press.

Having said that, don't bother the TV signal goes to s^%t and is un watcheable as soon as the car is moving.
