E39 M5 MAFs - will VW part really work?

So it appears that both my MAFs are gone/not returning any kind of true value, so I start hunting for pricing:
  • BMW OEM 13 62 1 433 566: R6119.49 at stealers, before discount
  • BMW Bosch 0 280 217 533: R3277.10 at a local Bosch dealer
  • VW Bosch 0 280 218 002: R1036.83 at a local Bosch dealer
According to Bossie's thread E39 M5 Power loss and another thread featuring Coisman, Beast_Power and Stig46t After market MAF sensors!!!, as well as m5board forums, you can just take the VW part, rip out the sensor and install in your BMW part. Will this really work?

Yes it will. Just make sure they sell you the correct part, then simply use your old MAF casing, and unscrew the sensors in both, and then install the VW unit, the plugs are even the same. :thumb:

Thanks guys. VW sensors transplanted into BMW housings and working perfectly. :)

How much did it cost??
I remember Stig46t paid like +/-R1600 for both... or something like that...

Rand/$ probably affects that price. I paid R1820 in total. Still a far cry from R5200 for both (Bosch BMW part) and R12240 for both (stealer price before discount).
