E36 Terrible Shake when braking from high speed (120 +)

Ok so thats not such a high speed, but im sure you catch my drift.

Anyway moving on, the car shudders when you press the brake around that speed.
We were wondering if it could be the brake discs or the LCAB , ball joints etc.

does anyone have any insight into this matter?

And is it possible to have a cross drilled brake disc with a standard brake (example the ATE pads) with a Brembo Disc? also where whould one purchase these cross drilled discs in the Jozi area?

Thanks.

My bet would be warped discs and or LCABS.

You can purchase those discs from diesel electric and places like Midas etc. Look into upgrading those brakes to the e46 330i brakes :) Gizmo has a lot of experience in this dept.

What is the mileage? Have the LCABs been changed? Then it could be the LCABs.

Yes to the normal pads on drilled rotor, but why go 'stock' pads when you go for performance disks?
REMEMBER: Drilled rotors CHOW pads!!! Be ready to replace the pads more often...

Mileage : 138000
LCABS : Unsure of the LCABs we bought the car from the second owner.
Pads : We put in new pads and skimmed the disks, and a few sources have pointed out warped discs, one is slightly warped, so we were thinking of changing the discs now to check if it solves the problem. So with almost new brake pads it would a bit of a waste to throw them away. However I was unaware that the crossed drilled discs chow pads. Thank you. Thats the main reason for keeping the stock pad. Also the car does fairly low mileage on average. But we'll look at the pro's and con's of this.

@freerider Thanks :D

Thanks guys.

Could be warped discs. Would get it sorted out quickly as the vibration will eventually fcuk up the bushes and/or lower control arms.

I had that exact same thing on my E 36, turned out to be the LCAB's. Replaced them the other day, and the shudder is gone.

Those powerbrakes are awesome!!!
I put on a R4500 Powerbrake kit with yellow stuff pads onto my Lumina and they made NO difference - I eventually sold the car in January because of the poor brakes. It was too scary not being able to stop. The stock brakes on my 330i are awesome.

Rapido, I think there may have been other issues with the Lumina, as everyone I have spoken to with Powerbrake kits are over the moon with them. I have also personally been in a Fiesta ST, that stopped like a vampire on a wooden stake with the powerbrakes.

I took mine to Supa Quick. They charged me R2000, supplied and fitted.

Don, but those fiestas are not fast to begin with... did you test drive one?

so what are the quality of these powerbrake calipers, compared to say stoptech or brembo????? I assumed the cost differences are probably huge.

I used to get it even when braking from 80

Turned out the LCAB's were shot which were promptly replaced (man they are expensive!). After that no problem but recently i was braking from 120 and i could feel a slight shudder. I can't remember the last time i went more than 80 so i always forget to get it checked out.

I admire his patience and the effort he puts into turning the world into a better place by driving slowing. I'm trying to slow down also, but its a bit hard.
