E36 stomp test/'gas' pedal test

Howsit fanatics. Have any of you ever tried this on your beloved e36?

does this work on our cars? I've tried and I don't get a "check engine light" flash. I'm not sure if I'm imagining myself but I can hear something happening behind the dash. It sounds like a hard drive being read.

Now I'm curious...The cluster test. (Where you hold the trip reset and switch the key to position 1, so as to reset/calibrate the cluster). When I do this test I don't get a CEL on the cluster. All other lights are lit and the dials run right up and then down again. Could it be the bulb in the cluster that is shot?

If you have performed any of these tests...what are your findings. Thanks peeps

My car doesn't even have a check engine light, I think that's a US-specific thing. It also only applies to their OBD-I E36's in the US.
