Hi Guys

Been having an issue with my roof lining. it seems to have detached from the roof board and is now sagging.

any idea of how i can get that sorted without dismantling my entire interior?

Quite easy to remove. Take off the roof grab handles, the sun visors and the side covers on the roof pillars and it should come out quite easily. Did a previous E36 of mine by tearing off the cloth and cleaning the cardboard backing with sunlight liquid and a brush. Bought some speaker material and a litre of contact adhesive and brushed the adhesive on the cardboard only and pressed the speaker material onto the board. Works nicely as it is flexible enough to follow the contours of the cardboard. Was really impressed by the finish although it was black. When dry, put the rooflining in back in the reverse order. Otherwise try and get the stuff that came off the board from an upholsterer. Or have it done by the professionals (they quoted me R800 about three years ago here in Hermanus

on my E36 316 I had to take out my whole roof interior and rip off the old ones and replaced it with new ones and added some soundproof material between the roof and board.

Its not that difficult to take out the problem comes in to get it out of the doors without damaging the board. :fencelook:

One cannot repair or fix the sagging head linner. Believe me I've tried. The material has to be replaced.

Correct, replace the material only is possible. My board came out quite easily and went in back also without difficulty. It is still in place now three years later. Took me about 5 hours to do, though!

Thanks for the response guys...

i was actually hopinig it would be as easy as wetting it while still in place in the hope that it will moisturise the adhesive already there and it will become sticky again.. then just stress it back on.. I guess not!! lol.

@Solo man... Mine is the grey cloth, so what i thought was that it would leave water stains.. Black im sure would be an easier option, maybe i should redo my roof in black since i have black leather.

@Dippies... i never really thought about how i would get it out the car once its loose, so thanks for that.

Hey guys, so I have the same problem.

Can you maybe shed some light as to why the original lining cant be used any longer?

On my other car the headliner was done over but the material used was not OEM & in my mind it looks KUK

Because there is a foam backing which turns into poo. Once the foam is gone, new material time.

pretty mutch sums it up. I tried everything and nothing seems to last not even pratex putty. (Glue).

So this is the best option

I've got a beige one in storage with the sunroof cutout which has not delaminated from my e36 track car build... offers welcome if anybody wants to go that route

That sucks!!!

Non OEM:thumbdo::throwup:

Just a thought, but if the material is not damaged & separated from the foam, can the foam not be scraped off & replaced with new foam, but same material

....I'm clutching at straws here I know...

I have recovered mine by myself. I managed to source material that's non oem but quiet close. Hard to tell the difference. Will upload pics tomorrow.
