E36 m3

Hi there guys, I'm totally new the this forum and I'm in need of some of your input on this one. I've got the option of buying a e36 m3 with about 170 000 km for R70 000, there's not much wrong besides AC and mirrors not working. Then the other option is a e36 328i coupe with 200k km and good condition with a full M3 kit on just obv not an M but the guy wants R30 000 for it. Would it be a good idea buying the 328i and dropping a m3 motor in it, if so what all do I need to change to swop in the m3 motor? Or should it be a no brainer buying the m3??

Thnx. Any help will be appreciated

Take the M3.
To get the 328i with M3 motor, plus M3 brakes and suspension RIGHT will cost you more than 40k over the price of the 328i.

Post pics of the M3

The 328? I really want a e36 M badly. But I thought if I could take this and build it to M spec that wouldn't be so bad. But I think it's probz better just buying a M straight up and negate the hassles of building it I suppose.

You will also have better resale on an m3 than a 328i built m3

True. Thnx a lot guys. Really appreciate the input. I was more worried about the cost to build it to m3 spec. Seems like I'm better suited in buying a M. :)

those are chicken teeth bro.. honestly, I found a few but you are going to need to spend some bucks on it. i bought mine for 65k and she was in a good condition but she needs work. so be prepared to spend money to her mechanically sound and then you spend some bucks on getting her looking pretty and theeeeeeeeeeeeeen you do sound and stuff like that..

don't be like the younger crowd that do the reverse.. LOL

E36 M's seem to be going for peanuts these days

But honestly guys, be wary of ones that are not mechanically sound, because they can quickly become a money pit.

agreed bro. these cars anything between 15 to 20 years old and it is very rare to find them in the best condition unless it was a garage queen. so you would need to throw money at it

@rodney I'm actually not a sound system type of person. I would usually spend that money on performance hehe. #justme. I looked at a certain red M in CPT but I see it's been written off on a certain thread on this forum. There are very neat ones in CPT but I don't think the owners are thinking if selling anytime in the next 100 years

If you want a neat E36 M3 be prepared to pay above book value. I looked at ALOT and quickly realized you get what you pay for. I would rather wait and save a bit longer and then buy the right car. Also get printouts on the car from BMW and scrutinize service history.

Yeah and be prepared to WAIT for a neat one haha. But yeah it makes sense paying a decent "hefty " price for a neat one instead of paying 70k and spending another 40k. But those cars are so damn scarce in CPT.

What I would do is put aside some bucks for a mechanical check on any M3 you are interested in. My family has a car dealership and believe it or not I bought mine from another dealership and paid book+ price because it was cleanest one I could find. Its like you said, the guys with good examples don't want to sell and if they do they want their price.

Lets not talk about the fabled 325iS.....:fencelook:
