I am planning to change the E36 M3 for a E82 125i Coupe. What are ur experiences with the 125i and what should i watch out for. The 125i has 90 000km.

If you looking for performance and good fuel consumption don't do it.
Is it manual or auto?
I had the auto and it can be quite dull but it is an amazing car. Great sound too hey.
In comparison to an e36 M though, there is no comparison to be honest.

Still a great car for what it's worth

Great car. Drive it 1st though to ascertain whether or not it's for you or not. Only advice, at least with th sports pack you'll still hold some value down the line but not terribly much.

Spend some time with the car man, great car, decent build quality but with some very hard plastics seen as its the 1 series.
Go well though, just don't expect greatest performance from the 3.0l i6. Fuel consumption is quite heavy though, just be aware of that. Best I EVER got was 10.3l/100km's and that was driving like an old granny

Boet , I went from an m3 to a 335 and there are still days where I miss my car and regret having sold it, there's something special about the M3.

Hi bud, 125 is a nice ride, like everyone said the M is still king IMO.
But if you are selling, consider speaking to Kobus325is, he was looking for a clean M

Rather save up. Your E36 M3 is not going to depreciate any more - the price is influenced by condition and mileage, not age. However, the 135i prices are still dropping now that the new one if out - hence, if you're patient, then I think you rather wait and go for the 135i. Just my R0.02.

If you like it and are used to the M3's power, you're gonna miss it big time! Will we read your thread in a year's time: "I should never have sold my M3!" As old as the E36 M3 is, it's still more of a head-turner than a 125 Coupe.. (My 2c's..)

I saw a 2008 135i with < 70 000km going for R255k.
More than a secondhand 125i, obviously, but I think worth saving for.

I personally think the 1 Coupe looks nicer than the E36, but that's just me.

Will the 125i be faster than the E36 M3? Probably not.
Will it drive better? Probably not.

It will have more of the newer features, and imo the "upgrade" is probably not worth it, not for that kind of money at least.

125i will leave you feeling unsatisfied. If you value performance then a 135i would be your best option. A clean E46 M3 would be a good alternative aswell.

Thanks Guys

The only reason for the change is that i am getting killed with petrol since i use it everyday to work, and the wife cannot drive it.

So will keep it until something good comes along.

In my somewhat biased opinion have you considered an E90 330d. Yes, it's not a coupe, but as an everyday driver, it's just superb. Go and test drive one if you get a chance - also earlier models are falling below R200k, which is a lot of car for the only. With the M sport suspension handling is very good too.

Btw, there's a few members that went from a 125i to 135i - consumption in real life situations is actually better on the 135i.

Hi

Its a 1994 Coupe with 237000km, no mods, car is standard. In the 4 years i have it, i only changed the fuel pipe from the filter and put in a new radiator last week due to the neck breaking off.

E36 = Legend... Don't get rid of it for a 125i, the car will not leave you feeling very satisfied...

In terms of the 36 on fuel - i use mine as a daily drive too... On days when i push it hard, it drinks quite a bit, but if i drive it like i am driving Ms Daisy, it gives me good efficiency, almost 500km to a full tank...

Anyway, it is up to you, but an M3 is special... Rather keep it and use it on weekends, and buy a Yaris for your work commute

YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO REPLACE THE M3 ONCE YOU LET IT GO

Its a bit compromised car, as I've also been giving it (1ser coupe) a good look over, as I really liked the chunkyness and stance of the car from day one that it was released, and from what I hear wrt handling, the car is very chuckable in the corners, reminds me of the E30 2door, and actually had a look at one over the weekend.

From what I can see you can buy an E92 for similar money if you shop around, as even though it is a 1ser, these cars where pricey when they where sold as new, so a used 1ser coupe buy now is still what can buy an E92, which is a bit more car and features. The fuel tank might be an issue, with only a 53L vs 65L in the M3 as well, with hard driving you'll be filling up often.

If you like the body style, have you considered a 120d coupe, which is more economical, & awesome on the open road?

Some things to consider:-

Rear leg room
Fuel tank
Boot size
Lack of spare wheel
Boot size with space saver wheel
Lack of electronic climate control

These are some things I picked up so far.

Thanks
